Debt register account - opening an account

Do you want to hold German Government securities in custody without any charges?

If you do, then open a debt register account with the Finance Agency. Even after the end of 2012 you can dispose over your German Government securities on this account in the same way as on an ordinary custody account. You can place orders for sale of German Government securities conveniently online, by phone or mail, or by calling personally at our branch in Frankfurt.

Please note: From the start of 2013, the German Finance Agency will stop offering government securities directly to private investors and German debt will only be available through lending institutions. Only securities issued before August, 22nd 2012 can be held in custody.

As a precondition for opening a debt register account with the Finance Agency you have to authorise you through the PostIdent-procedure at a German post office. Therefore you need to take your passport or identification with you.
Alternatively, you can proof your identity by visiting us in person at our Frankfurt branch. Here you will get additional help and detailed information about the application process and German Government securities.
